I'll use this blog to discuss the journey of my writing process, connect with those who share my passion for reading, and have a little fun along the way.

Boy, oh, boy…..I confess…I am have two hobbies which challenge my checkbook – reading and sewing. Get me into a book store or quilt shop, and you can kiss my budget goodbye!!

This past November and December, my writing took a backseat to my holiday sewing. Last year, I made table runners for several members of my family using holiday inspired fabrics. This year, with the leftover scraps, I made matching quilted potholders for everyone. Of course, I HAD to purchase supplemental fabric to finish the items.

One of my family members keeps chickens and I found a fun fabric with chickens wearing Santa hats. Well, of course, that went into the shopping cart. The potholders turned out really cute and she loves them!

My county has a Christmas Mother organization to aid families in providing gifts for children who might not receive them otherwise. Last year, I made 50 fabric tote bags for the Christmas Mother group to hand out – each bag was filled with a coloring book and crayons.

This year, when a local quilt shop learned that I was making more Christmas Mother totes, I was invited to come to their shop and they donated YARDS of fabric for me to use for the totes. There were holiday prints and cute juvenile printed fabrics. I didn’t use it all — so my tote fabric for Christmas 2025 is ready to go next fall.

Last year, after receiving her Christmas table runner, my youngest daughter asked for one that could be used year ‘round. She wanted something with greens and browns. I made the table runner top and took it to a quilt shop to have it quilted. It’s finished and will be delivered to her soon.

Quilting and writing are not so far apart. Both arts require one to take the separate pieces and fit them together into something that is pleasing and cohesive. A quilt provides outside warmth. A well written story can warm the heart.

So, here’s a salute to those who own and operate quilt shops! I wish you all a successful new year in 2025.
